Motor Vehicle Additional Benefit Insurance

Background

• All kinds of motor vehicles are presently insured under Motor Vehicle Insurance as per "Motor Tariff Directive, 2073"
• In partial loss claim of motor vehicle, some amount is deducted due to depreciation on all parts except parts made of glass. The rate of depreciation for this purpose is 50% for Rubber, Tyres, Tube, Lights, 30% for parts made of Fibre Glass and up to 50% for other mechanical parts as per the age. There might be a significant deduction of the claim amount due to depreciation and the vehicle owner has to bear the cost of repair of the vehicle.
• In case of total loss or theft of the vehicle, the claim payment will be up to the Sum Insured of the vehicle. Basis of Sum Insured for motor vehicle insurance is the price of a similar brand new vehicle less depreciation as per age. In a total loss claim, the vehicle owner has to bear a significant amount on the purchase of a new vehicle.
•  The vehicle owner has to bear the daily transportation cost during the repair of the vehicle following the partial loss. The vehicle owner has to bear the same cost until the purchase of a new vehicle in case of total loss.
• As Motor Vehicle Insurance can not provide full indemnity to the vehicle owner, Shikhar Insurance Company Ltd. has introduced "Motor Vehicle Additional Benefit Insurance" to provide more indemnity.

Benefit of Auto Plus Insurance

3 types of benefits can be insured under this insurance :

1. Depreciation Waiver

In case of replacement of parts under Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance, the amount of depreciation will be paid on replacement of parts, as per Surveyor's report of loss assessment. The claim will be paid for the parts, which are considered necessary.

 2. New Vehicle Replacement

In case of the total loss of the insured vehicle, the amount difference between the Sum Insured of the Insured Vehicle and the current showroom price of a new vehicle of the same make, model, features, and specification.

 3. Daily Rental / Transportation Cost

In case of loss or damage of insured vehicle under Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance, daily rental/transportation cost, as mentioned in the policy, will be paid in the following way:

  a) Maximum of 30 days in case of Total Loss Claim

  b) Maximum of 14 days in case of Partial Loss Claim

Daily rental/transportation costs for 4 wheeler and 2 wheeler will be different. Further, this cost varies as per the Sum Insured of the vehicle.

Note:

- This insurance is available for private 4 wheeler (Car, Jeep) and 2 wheeler (Motorcycle, Scooter) only.

- This insurance is available for vehicles up to 10 years of age. Age counts from the date of manufacture of date of registration in Nepal.

- This insurance is given only to the vehicle which is insured under Motor Vehicle Insurance with Comprehensive cover.

- Any one or more additional benefits can be insured, for which a separate premium will be required for each benefit.

- Premium for these additional benefits insurance is an additional premium on Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance.

- This insurance will not pay the amount reduced for Deductible Excess and Salvage under Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance Claim.

- There will be an additional amount on the premium on account of Stamp duty and VAT (Value Added Tax) as applicable.
